We enjoyed our stay at Le Torri in San Gimignano. It has a fabulous location in the centre of a famous medieval town which is also very private with a wonderful view over the country side. (In one postcard, we could pick out our rooftop!) A very suitable place to stay while visiting the San Gimignano area with simple older furnishings. Le Torri is a large apartment (1076 square feet) with an adequately equipped kitchen. Sitting at the kitchen table with the sun streaming in through the window was a real pleasure. The house has a rustic feel to it; a real change from living in downtown Toronto. The private garden offers a view over the walls and is equipped with a table and 4 chairs.

We were a little dismayed that there was a note on the cooking stove suggesting we turn off the gas at night (to prevent leaks?) It had no pilot light but in fact, functioned well. The apartment is part of a higgledy-piggledy building; our bedroom window looked into another window (an office) only .....metres away. Our travelling companions complained about noise early in the morning through their open window.

Free parking outside the walls - you can drive in to drop your luggage. Don’t park in the pay parking: walk a little further around the walls to the free spots. There is public transportation to Siena and Poggibonsi from the town. Good shopping within walking distance, including a Co-op grocery store just outside the main gate. We made daytrips by car to Volterra, Siena, and the Chianti countryside. Lots of restaurants but aimed at tourists. Garden had table and chairs for outdoor meals. The onsite rental agency (the currency exchange office) was very casual but friendly.

No extra costs in October 2000. Bed linen, towels, kitchen towels, utilities, final cleaning, etc. included.

Overall assessment: great location, economical way to stay for a week in a fabulous location, clean. Staying in the town gave us the chance for moonlight strolls after dinner when the daytrippers had left! The house would not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems.

We enjoyed the fact that we were in the town and had quick access to amenities. The town was great for strolling in the evening. The bathing facility in the apartment was convenient and practical (shower & toilet were in separate rooms).
We had difficulty with the keys & locks. They tended to be challenge to use at times.
I would recommend the apartment & would stay again.
